May 6th - Cool Flowers
A brief meeting will be held from 6:00 p.m.
Social time: 6:30 p.m.
Program: 7 p.m.
Connie Ogasawara, an avid gardener for three decades, will talk about “Cool Flowers” (AKA cool season hardy annuals - the first flowers to bloom in spring) and how to grow them. These are flowers that you may have tried to grow before but by the time you planted them, the heat of summer has killed them! These flowers and plants require special timing and planning – it’s not hard but you have to plan ahead. You need to know your first and last frost dates and the flowers that are winter hardy in your zone. The good news is that there is even a trick to growing ANY cool season hardy annual (even those not hardy in your zone) just by planning ahead and preparing a bed in the fall for spring planting – way before you ever thought you could actually work in your garden!
